Fans of the Cincinnati Reds who also love a good mystery have reason to go back to Great American Ball Park this September, as manager Bryan Price will have his favorite bad-luck pitcher back in the bullpen. That’s right, Reds lovers, the Reds have expanded their roster for the stretch run, and J.J. Hoover is back on the Riverfront, according to Mark Sheldon:
"Recalled from Triple-A Louisville:RHP Carlos Contreras (#53)RHP Daniel Corcino (#64)IF/OF Jake Elmore (#15)LHP David Holmberg (#36)RHP J.J. Hoover (#60)C Tucker Barnhart (#16)1B/OF Donald Lutz (#23)"
There is not a whole lot of inspiration on that list for a team that’s heading nowhere, but Hoover’s return is interesting, at least. You may remember the apology he Tweeted to fans just before going down last month:
Hoover has been lit up just about every time he takes the mound for the Reds this season, by Price keeps sending him out there in terrible situations for confidence-building. Hopefully, Hoover can get in some more or less anonymous and uneventful work in September to build something for 2015.

Even if that “something” doesn’t happen in Cincinnati.
Aside from the crew above, the Reds also brought in outfielder Yorman Rodriguez from Pensacola and selected the contracts of OF Jason Bourgeois and LHP Ryan Dennick from Louisville.
We may not have Ben Zobrist in the fold for a pennant run in 2014, but by golly, we have Yorman!
