Reds-Cardinals Right Now Best Rivalry In Baseball.
By Jesse Mapati
As the Reds and Cardinals begin their big weekend series at Great American BallPark in the Queen City starting tonight Im going to breakdown on why this matchup between the two foes is the best rivalry in baseball right now.
We all know the Yankess-Red Sox rivalry is the best in baseball history but right now I think the Reds-Cardinals rivalry is taking the step and here’s why. Both teams this year are 1 and 2 in the NL Central standings with the Cardinals leading it and have the best record in baseball. The Reds are tied for 5th in the best record baseball category and with both teams contenders it just makes the games so intriguing and fun to watch.
Another, is the whole brawl of 2010 that took place in Cincinnati late August both teams battling for the top spot in the NL Central the Reds eventually won it. That brawl sparked up the intensity of the rivalry with Brandon Phillips and Yadier Molina mouthing words and the benches cleared I was there to witness it and it was such a hetic atmosphere in the stadium.
Last year Johnny Cueto and Brandon Phillips got snubbed out for the all star game and we all think former Cards manager Tony LaRussa who was manager for the game purposely did it for reasons extending to the brawl of 2010 which I think is ridiculous and childish on his part.
The fan bases in both cities hate each other so much I see from twitter and radio shows just adds the intensity of the rivalry and frankly I love it. No doubt this weekend series’ between the Reds-Cardinals is a must watch for baseball fans because it is the best rivalry in the game today.
