Trade for Ben Zobrist in July

Coming out of the All-Star break the Reds were an up-and-coming team who had ridden strong pitching into contention, despite an anemic offense.  The trade deadline loomed and the timing was perfect to pick up a bat to help in the second half.

Ben Zobrist was one of many who might have helped the Reds, and he was versatile and cheap and young enough for them to have carried him into 2015 and beyond.

Instead, the Reds sat on their hands and watched the season slip away by early August.
