Right fielder Jay Bruce has contributed mightily to the Reds’ problems on offense this season, as he’s batting just .229 with 10 home runs and 41 RBI through his first 78 games.  His nine stolen bases represent his career best (he also had nine in 2012), but the Reds need him to slam not swipe.  Bruce has also been a bit stiff in the field this season, though he did string together a run of homers before the break and his strikeout rate is actually down just a tick from last year.   The Reds need a big second half from Bruce if they are to be true contenders.
