If it looks like I’m all over the board with these grades, it’s because I see the 2014 Cincinnati Reds as a very polarized team. Solid-to-great pitching backed up by soft hitting, led by a strong first-year manager who can’t get much help from the front office. With the purported stars either down or not producing, this club is developing a grass-roots type of feel and may have to scrap for everything they get. So far, their scrapping has them near the top of the NL Central heap, so there is reason for optimism, even if problems loom.

Grade : B
