General manager Walt Jocketty has shown a general reluctance to make big moves on the trade market, and that trend has held so far in 2014. With the lineup falling apart around Price, Jocketty has done nothing to this point to relieve the pressure, often citing financial constraints caused by the team’s record $112 million (according to Deadspin). The problem with that argument, of course, is that Jocketty created the situation by signing Joey Votto, Jay Bruce, Homer Baily, etc., to big long-term deals that tie up the team’s resources.
There is still time for Jocketty to make a move, though not much.
