Alex Gonzalez Games Over .500

The Reds dropped another yawner yesterday afternoon, losing at home to the Milwaukee Brewers, 1-0, while picking up only two hits. The loss leaves the Reds just two games over .500 at 44-42 with eight days until the All-Star break.
Of all the guys who have ever worn number 2 for the Reds, no one exemplifies their current situation quite like shortstop Zack Cozart, but former shortstop Alex Gonzalez is not far behind (ahead?). For those who might not remember, Gonzalez manned SS for the Reds in parts of 2007 and 2009, and he actually displayed a little pop on the Riverfront.
For his career, though, Gonzalez sports a 74 OPS+, which means he’d have to find another third of himself and add it on top of his offensive “production” to be just league-average. So, yeah, Gonzalez would fit with this year’s Cincinnati team maybe even better than he did five years ago.
For all that he lacks with the bat, Gonzalez is our Number 2.
