In their quest to secure a playoff berth in 2014, the Cincinnati Reds are sure to be looking for offensive help down every avenue as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. With a particular need in left field, the Reds might be among those teams interested in Nolan Reimold, whom Zach Links at MLB Trade Rumors reports is on the verge of being designated for assignment as June draws to a close.
As Links points out, Reimold is one of those guys with tons of potential who has just never panned out quite like his team and fans had hoped. Still, he’s a big guy with plenty of power, and he could fit well with the Reds as a change-of-scenery player if the price were right. If the O’s do DFA Reimold and end up sending him to the minors, the Reds could emerge as a trade partner. The fact that Reimold currently sits on the DL could be a deterrent, but he appears to be edging back toward active duty.
The Orioles will likely be looking for help at catcher and in the rotation and bullpen as July wears on.
