Brandon Phillips Games Over .500!
By Adam Hughes
Here at Riverfront Ball, we’re all about streaks and supporting our teams’ efforts to maintain or reverse current trends, depending on the situation. In that vein, and to help the Cincinnati Reds and their fans track the team’s march toward the playoffs in 2014, we’re going to dedicate one post each day to a player with a uniform number that matches the Reds’ over-under at the moment. After Cincinnati’s dramatic 11th-inning victory last night in San Francisco, the team stands four games above .500, and Red flags are at full mast all across the land.
As it happens, the Reds’ current number four is second baseman Brandon Phillips, who turned 33 on Saturday. Oh yeah, he also slammed a ninth-inning home run to keep the game alive and set up Cincy for it’s third straight win. So, with apologies to Chick Hafey and Chris Stynes, Brandon Phillips is our inaugural over-under barometer man.
