Joey Votto embraced his Canadian heritage Tuesday when he dressed as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (also known as a Mountie) for an interview on MLB Network’s program “Intentional Talk.”
Votto surprised the show’s hosts, Chris Rose and Kevin Millar, by dressing in full Mountie regalia and doing a complete deadpan interview. His straight-faced answers and admonishments about thinking his get-up was a joke quickly reduced Rose and Millar to laughter.
The Cincinnati Reds first baseman talked about everything from Canadian beer to his horse, “Nibbles,” whom Votto said has a handler who takes care of him while he’s at the ballpark.
After that, Rose and Millar showed clips of his high school days. The video consists of him introducing himself, and him running his 7.1 forty yard dash time, that had “serious” Votto to chuckle a bit and told them that they got him.
The Reds’ clubhouse was full of everybody on the ground while watching the interview live on TV.
This is the Votto I like, he’s now opening up more and just letting loose and having lots of funny. It all started, when he was a daily guest on the “Lance McAlister Show” every other Tuesday during the off-season, so credit goes to you Lance.
