GABP it was a classic Reds v. Cardinals match up.

Chris Heisey ended the game with a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth for a 1-0 Reds win. What got the Reds to this point was a phenomenal outing by Tony Cingrani and wonderful defensive play.

Opening Day saw a pitching duel between Johnny Cueto and Adam Wainwright, Opening Night brought much of the same as Tony Cingrani and Michael Wacha went toe to toe. Cingrani went 7 innings strong, giving up only 2 hits while striking out 9 in the process, he also kept his pitch count under 100. Phenomenal outing for Cingrani.

Joey Votto showed everyone that he can in fact get on base by hitting the baseball. Known for his walks Votto went 2-3 and one walk to be the only Red to reach base three times Wednesday night.

There was one scary moment, or rather a hold your breath moment when Ryan Ludwick was hit on the hand by a Wacha pitch. Ludwick was visibly in pain, jumping up and down on the base line as he made his way to first. Thankfully he was ok. Home plate umpire Kerwin Danley was also hit by the pitch, he was also ok.

Chris Heisey’s walk off single was the Reds first run of the season, after 17 scoreless innings a walk off single is exactly what this team needed. Heisey had a surprisingly good spring and it has carried over into the regular season. Heisey pinch hit for JJ Hoover in the bottom of the ninth.

One disappointment for the Reds is Billy Hamilton’s hitless streak. He is now 0-8 on the season, the speedster needs to reach base somehow in order to steal bases. Two games is certainly nothing to fret over but it would be nice to see Billy in action.

Both games in this season opening series have been 1-0 games. These two teams are very evenly matched so far, a real surprise to many fans and surely some media members.

For the fans that waited around for nearly three hours they were treated to a great game. The crowd was electric tonight at GABP, three hours of pre gaming had the crowd primed for a raucous, loud night. It was great to see this early in the season.
