Can’t win them all, the Cincinnati Reds fell to the Seattle Mariners one day after utterly dominating the San Diego Padres. Spring Training baseball games are rarely entertaining, usually they’re rather boring as each team looks to work out new players. Monday though was one of those few in-between games.
A 6-5 game saw the Mariners spark a 4 run inning in the 7th to overcome the Cincinnati 5-2 lead for the eventual win. Cincinnati scored their runs early with four runs in the 3rd and one run in the 5th inning.
Alfredo Simon started for the Reds Monday, he went three scoreless innings, striking out four and giving up no hits over that time. Simon was relieved by Aroldis Chapman who pitched 2 innings, which he has allowed the Reds to do with him for the last season or so. Chapman gave up 3 hits and struck out 3 over his two innings. Chad Rogers entered the game and gave up a grand slam in the 7th ultimately picking up the loss.
Billy Hamilton continued to work on the little things Monday, a bunt and a steal is not a shabby outing for the young speedster. Hamilton has played well this Spring Training, he will be exciting to watch this season.
The Reds face the Seattle Mariners again tomorrow at 3:05.
