The University of Cincinnati is set to announce an extension to Mens Basketball Head Coach Mick Cronin’s current contract. Cronin is currently in his eight season as head coach at Cincinnati. His extension was first reported by Cincinnati sports talk show host Lance McAlister. New AD Mike Bohn has made it clear that basketball is a priority in his first week on the job.
A deal through 2021 almost cements Cronin being at Cincinnati for the next 6 years at least. With that much time on a deal the university will not buy that out and they shouldn’t have to. Cronin is committed to Cincinnati and now Cincinnati has shown their commitment to him.
With the #10 ranked team in the country, three tournament appearances in a row and recruiting classes that get stronger every year its about time the university showed commitment. The next issue on the docket will be either a new arena or renovation of US Bank arena in downtown Cincinnati.
Cronin will be making about $1M more in his new deal, you can throw all the money at him and he surely appreciates it but at the same time you have to also get him the tools he needs. So far so good Mike Bohn.
