Over the holidays many Reds fans likely hoped and wished the Cincinnati Reds would make a free agent signing, a trade or do something to show them the club is looking to improve itself for the 2014 season. But the Reds did not and now it appears they will not make any moves.
Reds General Manager Walt Jocketty said Friday that the team will not make any major moves. “No, definitely not, We don’t have the money” said Jocketty to the Cincinnati Enquire on Friday. There you have it fans, from the head honchos mouth. Don’t get upset yet though, Jocketty has said things like this before only to make a move a few weeks later.
Numerous twitter rumors over the holidays included the Reds going after shortstop Stephen Drew or right fielder Nelson Cruz. Both players would add depth and quality to the Reds lineup both offensively and defensively. Jocketty though is telling Reds fans not to expect either of these players to end up in a Reds uniform.
According to MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon Jocketty did discuss the possibility to sign former Cleveland Indians star Grady Sizemore this offseason. Sizemore has not played since the 2011 season any deal that the Reds would offer Sizemore would have to be a minor league contract.
This offseason the Reds did sign utility man Skip Schumacher and thats about it while losing Shin Soo Choo. Pitchers and catchers report February 14th will the Reds make any moves before then? Comment below or tweet us @RiverFrontBall
