winners. A year after being snubbed in favor of an obsolete Darwin Barney. This year the voters got the second baseman selection correct.

Had it not of been for Barney’s Gold Glove in 2012 Phillips could potentially have 4 Gold Gloves in a row an 5 overall. Instead Phillips sits at 4 Gold Gloves, one shy of the franchise record set by Hall of Famer Joe Morgan.

Night in and night out Phillips has been a visual highlight reel for everyone at GABP and ballparks across the country to see. His “Web Gems” constantly aired on ESPN’s Baseball Tonight. While Phillips offense slipped a little this year his defense has never been better.

Phillips committed only 9 errors this season, fifth fewest in the National League. His .987 fielding percentage was fifth best in the National League as well. Phillips did not lead any defensive categories but his overall performance was deemed better. Not to mention all of the flashy play, the highlight reel that is Brandon Phillips certainly helps.

There has been a lot of speculation regarding Phillips’ status with the team but what is known is Reds fans will embrace this award and Phillips for the time being. Will he be here come spring? Who knows, but for now the Reds have another Gold Glove.
