The Cincinnati Reds offense this season has been anemic and it was the case on Saturday as they were shutout for the 9th time this season as they fall 2-0 to the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday night at Miller Park.

Brewers starter Yovani Gallarado returned from the DL on Saturday and of course pitched well against the Reds going 6 1/3 innings of scoreless ball to get the win.

After winning the opener of the series on Thursday the Reds have lost two in a row and missed opportunities to gain ground on the Pittsburgh Pirates who lost on Saturday and the St Louis Cardinals but they defeated the Cubs yesterday.

Mat Latos was on the mound and even though he didn’t have his best stuff last night, he battled through it and kept his team in the game. In the fourth inning with runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs allowed a two run double to Logan Schaefer to make it 2-0 Brewers as that was pretty much all they need to secured the win. Final line for Latos 7IP, 2ER, 6H, 3BB, 6SO as he lost for the first time this second half.

Reds offense had a big chance to do damage after Gallardo left the game after giving up a one out single to Brandon Phillips in the 7th inning. Brewers brought in reliever Brandon Kintizer and he allowed back to back singles to Jay Bruce and Ryan Ludwick. But, of course though when Xavier Paul came up with the bases loaded got him to ground into a 4-6-3 inning ending double play.

With the loss Reds remain 3 1/2 games out of first place in the NL Central and will turn to Homer Bailey this afternoon looking for the split in the four game series and the Brewers will counter with Wily Peralta. First pitch is at 2:10pm.
