Reds Shutout Giants To Start Trip.

Reds jumped in front of Giants starter Tim Lincecuem who 10 days ago threw a no hitter on 148 pitches. Shin Soo Choo doubled to right to leadoff the game extending his career high 16 games hitting streak. Derrick Robinson laid down a bunt single he was put in the lineup just moments before the game started as Chris Heisy according to Dusty gave him the night off, right move as Robinson added three hits tonight. Joey Votto struck out looking, Brandon Phillips bounced the ball to Lincecuem and Choo was going on contact but was tagged out on a rundown between third and home. With, two outs Jay Bruce walked loading the bases for Todd Frazier and lined a double to deep center clearing the bases to give the Reds a early 3-0 lead.

In the second inning Devin Mesarco who had a three hits as well  homered to deep left field for his 5th of the season to up the lead to 4-0. One batter later Choo goes opposite field for his 14th homerun of the year to make it 5-0.

The Reds kept scoring and scoring and at one point scored in every inning through the first seven innings of the game on 16 hits. Meanwhile, Bronson Arroyo made it look so easy just like what he did to the Giants at San Fran in Game 2 of the NLDS last season only this time Arroyo goes the distance with his 15th career complete game and sixth shutout in addition picked up his 100th win as a red moving his record this season to 9-7.

In one heart warming bit of news Reds third base coach Mark Berry made his return to the third base line after a battle with cancer, it was great to see him back out there.

With the win the Reds are now 4-0 against the Giants this season and will play a doubleheader tonight to make up for the July 4th rain out game in Cincinnati. In game 1 it will be Tony Cingrani on the mound for the Reds and the Giants will counter with a rookie pitcher Eric SurKamp making his big league debut first pitch is at 7:05pm. Game 2 the Reds will send out pitcher Greg Reynolds making his first start as a Red and the Giants will send out Barry Zito, the Reds will be the home team and will wear their white home jersey first pitch is at 10:15pm.  Get ready for some long day of Reds baseball.
