at the hands of the Oakland Athletics. Cincinnati was shut out by the A’s today 5-0.

Cincinnati sent Homer Bailey to the mound today. Like always Homer has the capability of being stout and for the most part he was stout. Homer went 6 innings giving up 6 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 7.

The four earned runs weren’t all Homer’s fault. The first run scored should have been an error on Devin Mesoraco who bobbled the play at the plate and should have easily tagged out Jed Lowrie after he slid past home. Instead Mesoraco threw the ball at Lowrie who was able to tag to base taking a 1-0 lead.

Following that play at the plate Homer gave up a three run blast to Josh Donaldson. The homer was likely a cause of frustration from Homer.

Once again though the Reds offense did nothing to help Homer out. Honestly it has been like a broken record the last week on here. The Reds offense has done absolutely nothing over the last 8 games. Every time there seems to be some hope for the offense that hope is gone the next day.

The power outage is still mind boggling. A team with the likes of Votto, Choo, Bruce, Frazier and Phillips should be knocking in runs every inning. Instead they are doing the opposite like only getting 2 hits in todays game.

Someone needs to light a fire under this team. Someone has to yell at them, get in their face, tell them they are garbage then hope the team starts to perform. Dusty Baker doesn’t believe in that type of managing so a player needs to step up.

Other than that the Reds have a much needed off day on Thursday before returning to diamond in Texas to face the Rangers.
