Mike Leake continues his incredible run of pitching as he was able to win his 7th game of the season and was backed by four solo homeruns hit by his teamates in a 4-1 Reds win Monday Night at Great American BallPark.
Leake for the second straight start verus the Pirates in three weeks was strong going seven innings, allowing one run, six hits, one walk and three strikeouts. He is now 7-3 with a 2.64 ERA in 14 starts this season simply amazing.
Game was scorless til the bottom of the fourth inning when Zack Cozart hit a upper deck shot off of Pirates starter Francisco Liranio to give the Reds a 1-0 lead. It was Cozart 7th homerun of the year as he continues to hit well in that 7th hole where I think he should be in the lineup.
Pirates got to Leake next inning with a double by Russell Martin scoring Andrew McCutchen from first it will be the only run the Pirates scored in the whole game.
In the bottom inning Reds comeback Todd Frazier hit a shot to left upper deck on a first pitch fastball off of Liranio to give the Reds a 2-1 lead at that point.
Leake was done after seven, Sam LeCure came in for the eighth gave up a one out single to McCutchen then Dusty brought in Tony Cingrani and he was on point escape out of trouble getting two strikeouts while walking one to get the final three batters in the top of the eighth.
Joey Votto and Jay Bruce added insurance homeruns for Aroldis Chapman in the bottom of the eighth inning. Votto went opposite field for his 11th homer of the year. Two batters later Jay Bruce goes oppo as well for his 13th homerun of the year. Chapman comes in the ninth shuts the door down for his 18th save of the year.
Reds will give the ball to Mat Latos who is still undefeated this season first pitch is at 7:10pm.
