Reds Select Phil Ervin In First Round
By Coop Ledford
The Cincinnati Reds had the 27th overall pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, they selected Phil Ervin, an outfielder from Samford University.
Ervin is 20-years-old, 5’10”, and weighs 205 pounds. He could play anywhere in the outfield, but is best at centerfield, according to many baseball websites.
Ervin has a great eye, he walked more times than he struckout during his senior season at SU. He also is a good hitter, he has sensational bat speed and has great plate discipline. He also has some good power, some websites say he could end up being a 20-20 guy when he makes it up to the big leagues, meaning he could steal 20 bases and hit 20 home runs.
Baseball experts compare Ervin to guys like Denard Span, Bobby Abreu, and even Curtis Granderson.
