It’s Becoming Easier to root for UC; Harder to root for OSU

If you live in Cincinnati, you’re a Bearcat fan; but if you live just outside of the city, you’re probably not. If you go to northern Warren or Butler County in Ohio, everyone is an Ohio State fan. If you go just south of Cincinnati, everyone is a Kentucky Wildcats fan. If you go just southwest of the city, everyone is a Louisville fan. If you go just west, everyone is an Indiana Hoosiers fan.

The Kentucky, Louisville, and Indiana fans don’t bother the Bearcats, but the Buckeyes do.

Cincinnati has never really been too fond of the Buckeyes, but recently they have hated them more-and-more. Urban Meyer went to the University of Cincinnati, now he’s coaching the Buckeyes.  Ohio State held their Spring Game at Paul Brown Stadium, a place where the Bearcats rarely play. That showed the ‘Cats up big time. And just recently, Ohio State’s now former-president, Gordon Gee, made some not-nice comments about the University of Cincinnati. That hurts.

I have been a Buckeye fan my whole life, and my number two team has been the Bearcats, but after what Gordon Gee said about UC, it’s becoming difficult to be an Ohio State fan.

The Cincinnati Bearcats could soon be a college football powerhouse, as they will be playing in an easy conference, like Ohio State, they will have a great coach this season, like Ohio State, and will have a star quarterback under-center soon in Gunner Kiel.

Ohio State will probably be a 10+ win team for many years to come, probably as long as Urban Meyer is there at least. The Buckeyes will always be good, but I’d say they are losing fans.

A lot of Ohio State fans are bandwagons, whether you want to believe that or not, and after the hurtful things Gordon Gee said, it’s going to be hard to root for them sometimes. Perhaps some of those bandwagon fans will start rooting for other teams, or their local team, which for a lot of people, would be the Cincinnati Bearcats.

The University of Cincinnati has done nothing controversial in a long time, Ohio State has. We all remember the tattoo scandal at Ohio State, the bowl ban, and now Gee’s comments. At Cincinnati, nothing like that has happened on, or off, the football field. The president of the University, Santa Ono, has said nothing like that, he, in-fact, is considered one of the best college presidents in the country.

It’s always easier to root for the good guys rather than the bad guys; right now UC is playing the role of the good guys, and OSU is playing the bad guys.

Also, Ohio State just changed it’s logo, it’s hideous. I loved Ohio State’s old logo, it was a classic, everyone liked it, but now it looks like they took the old logo, opened Microsoft paint, and filled in the letters with the paint bucket tool. You don’t want to root for a team with an ugly logo, do you? Cincinnati has an awesome logo, one of the coolest logos in the land.

I’m not really telling you who to root for in college athletics, as I couldn’t care less who you root for, but all I’m saying is, it’s becoming a lot easier to root for UC, and a lot harder to root for OSU.
