The Reds jumped out in front during the first inning against the Pirates against a pitcher for the bucs making his major league debut. Brandon Phillips hit a two run single with the bases loaded with no outs to put then up front 2-0 but they had to settle for only 2 the first inning which could have been more looking back. Reds tag on 3 more runs to go up front 5-0 and Latos through the first 6 innings he was on point, his pitch count was high just because the Pirates will get 2 out base hits to prolong the inning but Mat was able to escape.
Then came the 7th inning when Latos allowed a homerun, okay still up 5-1 we got this then after hit after hit Latos depart from the game leading 5-3 in comes Manny Para, who gives up a run and suddenly what looked like a Reds win it’s now a ball game up 5-4 heading to the 8th. Reds got a run back Jack Hannahan pinch hit single gave the Reds a 6-4 lead.
Then the dreaded bottom of the eighth inning Johnathan Broxton comes on and hasn’t pitch since last Sunday well his rust definitely showed allowed two homeruns both 2 run shots and suddenly which was a 5-0 lead turned into a 10-7 Reds lost and a sweep for the Pirates. A promsing start on the first road trip of the year with a 9 run ninth inning in St Louis ends to an adbrut end with losing the last 5 games of it and head home on a 5 game losing streak.
The Reds will have to regroup start a 10 game home stand starting tomorrow night vs the Philadelphia Phillies maybe a little home cooking is what this ballclub needs come out and support this team even though we are in a funk now we’ll be alright Reds Country.
