Cincinnati Media Focuses On Ohio State While Looking Past The Bearcats

Today Saturday April 13th 2013 the local media in Cincinnati turned their back on their own city and decided to support the enemy. What I’m referring to is the fact that The University of Cincinnati had an open spring practice last weekend and no media covered it to the extent they covered Ohio State’s spring game at Paul Brown today.

Ohio State decided that they needed to play in Cincinnati this weekend because their stadium is being renovated or some nonsense. I as a Cincinnati student, fan and citizen of this city have a couple problems with this. First why Cincinnati? Ohio State refuses to play UC here in Cincinnati, but Cincinnati is good enough to have your spring game? Why not use another stadium in the state? Crew Stadium in Columbus will hold 20,000 plus, hold the game there. Or why not Cleveland, no major football program there meaning no controversy.

The most annoying part about this whole thing has to be the Cincinnati media obsessing over Ohio State. They clamored at the Buckeyes like a child clamors at a celebrity, it was pathetic really. The Cincinnati Enquire had live updates via twitter and website. What did they do for UC’s spring game? Oh right, nothing. @Enqsports and @Cincienquier lost countless followers today.

As I listened to regular radio in my car this afternoon I only heard about the Buckeyes and how stoked everyone was they were here. Now I remember why I have XM.

How about this city recognizes the fact they have a major football program in this city. 4 Big East Championships in 5 years, 2 BCS Bowls, Back to Back bowl wins and a clean program, something Ohio State can’t say.

Everyone in Cincinnati that supported this spring game yet you have no tie to Ohio State, what are you doing? Supporting a team with a winning history is so easy, why don’t you support the winning team in your backyard?

Go Bearcats.
