Cashmere Wright scored a career high 28 points to lead the Bearcats in their fourth win of the season, 91-72. The Campbell Fighting Camels ended the Bearcats home-opening stretch of what many would call “guaranteed” games. However, the Fighting Camels didn’t make it easy for the home team to leave their court undefeated on Tuesday night.

Cincinnati has had the luxury of playing teams in their first three games that weren’t up to their level of play to get the season off to a fast start. The Bearcats won their previous three games in decisive victories, putting their opponents away easily. That wasn’t the case last night in Fifth Third Arena. UC got the big win, but they had the fans on the edge of their seats when the Fighting Camels went on a second half surge.

The Bearcats went into the locker room leading at halftime 46-28. The game looked to be over for Campbell, but as soon as everyone in Cincinnati counted them out, the visiting team cut the deficit to just 11 points after returning from the half. Campbell’s charge was led by Darren White, who scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half.

Cincinnati proved to be too much for the Fighting Camels, though. The team pulled together and rallied back from the mere 11 point lead to finish the game 19 better than the visitors. It was the team veterans at the helm of the attack.

Not only did Cashmere Wright have a career day, scoring 28 points, but he also added five steals, one rebound, and two assists to his stats. JaQuon Parker was not too far behind his fellow senior guard, accounting for 21 points, eight rebounds, and two assists in the victory. The only other player to put up significant numbers for the Bearcats in the win was Sean Kilpatrick. The junior rounded out the top scorers with 15 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

The Bearcats are hitting the road for the first time this season. Their next game is scheduled for Friday against Iowa State in Las Vegas, Nevada. The game will be another installment in the Global Sports Invitational.
