The Ring of Red game on Saturday was more like a ring of doom for the visiting Syracuse Orange. After the Orange led at halftime 17-14, the Bearcats returned in the second half to outscore their conference foes 21-7 in Nippert Stadium. Though, it was a team effort, one man accounted for most of the points that snapped the Bearcats losing streak on Saturday.
UC senior running back George Winn rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns in the win against Syracuse. He wasn’t done there, though. Winn couldn’t be happy with just running the ball into the end zone. He also decided to get in on the quarterback action. Winn padded his stats with a fourth touchdown against the Orange on a 37 yard pass to tight end Travis Kelce, aiding the Bearcats on their way to a 35-24 win over Syracuse.
Winn finished with 202 yards of total offense and enters this week’s game against Temple as the Big East rushing leader with an average of 112.1 yards per game. Not only are opposing teams taking notice of the senior running back, the Big East is recognizing Winn’s achievements too. George Winn was named the Big East Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Orange.
George is something special and he continues to be great in every game. He and the Bearcats will take to the field again for another noon game on Saturday in Philadelphia. They will take on the Owls of Temple. Temple comes into the matchup at 3-5, while Cincinnati holds a record of 6-2.
