Nearly a month and a half after being struck in the head by a hit Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman will be pitching in a game for the first time Thursday night in Dayton. Chapman will make an appearance for the Dayton Dragons, the Reds Class A affiliate.

Chapman pitched live batting practice a few days ago for the Reds, his first live action since being hit. Chapman had previously tossed bullpen sessions before the batting practice outing. Three live batting practices have prepared Chapman for Thursdays outing, the last occurred on Tuesday afternoon.

Reds manager Bryan Price has said that Chapman will make 3 to 4 rehab starts before rejoining the big league club. His next 2-3 starts will likely happen at Triple A Louisville for the Riverbats as opposed to the Dayton Dragons.

Chapman was struck in the face on March 19th in a spring training game against the Kansas City Royals. The hit knocked Chapman to the ground, although he remained conscious the entire time he was in immense pain. The hit resulted in a broken nose and a broke bone above his left eye, as well as multiple staples around his head.

In 2013 Chapman recorded 38 saves last season matching his total from 2012 as well. Chapman has been an All-Star the last two seasons as well while becoming a fan favorite for his 100mph+ fastball that lights up radar boards around the country each time he is on the mound.

The Reds certainly need Chapman back on the mound. The current bullpen for the Reds has struggled immensely this season, look no further than Wednesday nights game against the Cubs.

The Dragons game will start 7pm, Chapman will be starting for the Dragons.
