Former Cincinnati Bengals and University of Cincinnati football player Artrell Hawkins was found not guilty of domestic violence in a Hamilton County court Thursday afternoon.

Hawkins was arrested on February 15th following a dispute with his wife. According to the police report Hawkins’ wife told police that Hawkins’ kicked in the basement door of their Symmes Township home cause both her and her children to become scared. The judge ruled in favor of Mr. Hawkins this morning despite the prosecution bringing four witnesses to the stand.

Artrell Hawkins played in the NFL for 9 seasons, six of which were with the Cincinnati Bengals. He also played for the University of Cincinnati where he helped to break Cincinnati’s bowl drought. He was drafted in the 1998 NFL Draft.

Prior to his arrest Hawkins was on his way to making a broadcasting name for himself within Cincinnati in hopes of going nationally, it is yet to be seen if his arrest and subsequent finding of him not guilty will affect any of his broadcasting hopes/commitments.

Following his court date today Hawkins took to twitter to let everyone know how he feels about the judges decision.

Think it is safe to say Artrell Hawkins is very relieved and perhaps on his way to a divorce. This story generated a lot of buzz around Cincinnati, hopefully Hawkins can land somewhere, his role on FSOhio’s “Daybreak” was a fan favorite until he was replaced prior to his arrest.
