If you haven’t heard by now you are the only one, SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year Michael Sam out of Missouri became the first openly gay football player Sunday evening. This announcement comes a month from the NFL Combine and the NFL Draft where Sam is projected to be selected in the 3rd to 4th rounds.

Michael Sam understood exactly what he was doing when he made this announcement. This man, and that is what he is, a man, likely spent countless nights up wondering what to do. He made the decision to be himself, to be happy, he should be amended for that. But this is America where being gay is still socially unacceptable in some regions of the country.

With this being America and the age of social media people immediately took to twitter to “discuss” Sam’s announcement. While seemingly 90% of twitter praised him for making the decision to come out, to be a trailblazer there are always those people that have to be stuck in the dark ages with their book.

"I now hope that faggot Michael Sam has a career ending injury now"
