Triple A Cubs. Cincinnati goes into Chicago having lost 4 of their last 5. While the Cubs haven’t been much better Cincinnati still needs some solid wins.

The Reds were led by second baseman Brandon Phillips who had a monstrous night. Phillips started by lining into right in the 1st inning scoring Zach Cozart and recording his first RBI of the night. From there Phillips returned to the plate in the 3rd inning, this time though there was no liner to the outfield. Phillips came through clutch with the bases loaded he went deep to left for his first Grand Slam of the season, and his 5th RBI. He came through in the 8th as well grounding out to second but driving a runner in for his 6th RBI.

While Phillips was hot, Homer Bailey was equally on fire. Bailey went a solid 8 innings for the club, just what the doctored ordered in all honesty. Bailey only gave up one run on 4 hits while striking out 8 on a very dense fog/misty night on Chicago’s northside.

Alfredo Simon gave everyone a scare in the 9th. Simon became shaky with one out in the ninth, allowing runners to reach third and second the right hander had everyone yelling at their TV. But after last night tonights close call was nothing. Simon gave up one run and thanks to some good defense he escaped the inning and got the  win for Homer.

Joey Votto and Shin Soo Choo continue to lead the NL in On Base Percentage. Votto with .446, Choo with .433. Votto has been hitting well to leading the Reds with a .325 average.

No complaints about Dusty tonight, I would have used Chapman in the 9th but to each their own. After last night there is nothing to be said for the frustration Reds fans have for this manager.

Cincinnati returns to the diamond tomorrow night to face Matt Garza while the Reds are sending rookie Tony Cingrani to the mound.

The Garza matchup will be interesting, expect a tense game between Garza and the Reds offense. Cingrani has been Mr. Reliable for the Reds this season when he has been up with the big club. Look for big things from the Rook tomorrow.
