Jason Ellis, former Reds Minor Leaguer, now a police officer, was shot and killed in Bardstown, Kentucky on Saturday. He was found dead in his cruiser.

Ellis was born in Cincinnati, went to high school at Glen Este, went to the University of the Cumberlands, and was signed by the Reds in 2002.

Ellis played in the Reds organization in 2003 and 2004. He played for the Gulf Coast League Reds and the Billings Mustangs.

In his short career, he hit .258, one home run, and 10 RBI. After his baseball career was over, he said he wanted to be a police officer, so he could make a difference.

Two Kentucky police departments are investigating Ellis’ death.

Ellis was only 33 years old.
