So you expected to play sunday against Duke didn’t you? Yeah me too but instead we’ll be watching Duke take on Creighton instead while drowning in our own sorrow of yet another promising season ending early.

The Bearcats took on the Blue Jays from Creighton today in Philadelphia. The game looked a lot like every other Cincinnati game this season, decent defense, awful offense and atrocious free throw shooting. Cashmere Wright started off the game knocking down two three’s from distance. In typical Bearcat fan fashion we all got our hopes up. From there the Bearcats struggled to take the lead, entering the half trailing Creighton 67-63. On a side note since when was waving a towel a technical on a bench player? Definitely didn’t get any love from the refs today.

Out of the half it was much of the same for Cincinnati, not enough to take the lead but enough to stay close. Cincinnati’s defense did not do a very good job of shutting down Creighton’s star player Doug McDermott. McDermott scored 27 points and 11 rebounds on his way to a double double. Mean while Cincinnati star players Cashmere Wright and Sean Kilpatrick scored 30 points combined.

Cincinnati had a chance to win in the final minute but this has been the year of the missed free throws. Unfortunately for Cincinnati they needed to knock down 3 free throws, just three! Couldn’t do it. Instead the Bearcats relied on a last second three from Kilpatrick that looked good but again in typical Cincinnati fashion rimmed out sending the Bearcats home.

Mick Cronin enters this off season losing Cashmere Wright and Jaquon Parker, should Kilpatrick decided to forgo his senior season Cronin would also lose him. Good news is Cronin has a good recruiting class for next season.

It’s at this time I say the same thing Cincinnati fans say every season “There’s always next year” and until then mend your hearts, remember you live in a great city and at the end of the day you don’t live in Omaha like the Creighton fans.
