Friday Morning Headlines: NHL Breaks Silence, Luck Beats Dad on Thursday Night

For the first time since talks resumed, the NHL and NHLPA broke their silence, speaking the media. Neither side said too much about the state of negotiations, but elude that progress had been made. It does appear that the union offered two proposals on Wednesday, one on revenue sharing and one the “make-whole” concept. The NHL did respond yesterday, but it is not clear if they were receptive to the ideas.

Andrew Luck led the Colts past the Jaguars in Thursday Night Football 27-10. Luck ran for two touchdowns and looked good on the night. He was 18-26 with 227 yards, officially toppling his dad who played for the Houston Oilers. Luck officially surpassed his dad in passing yards, in only his rookie season, as his dad watched on. Andrew currently has 2631 yards, while Oliver completed five seasons in the NFL with only 2544 yards.

Ndamukong Suh was voted dirtiest player in the NFL, once again, by the Sporting News. Suh is no stranger to fines and controversy. Just this season, he somehow avoided a fine after slammed Cutlers head to the ground.

After the scandal at USC over their loss to the Oregon Ducks dust has settled, Lane Kiffin is insisting the student manager acted on his own. If you are unaware of the scandal, it appears that someone deflated five balls heading into the game, trying to slow the ducks down or give USC the advantage. Either way, it didn’t work, and the Pac-12 conference handed the school a hefty fine of $25,000 after the school fired the unnamed student.

In sad news, Tennessee State freshman defensive back collapsed during practice and later died at the hospital. William Jones III caught a ball and threw it to his coach when he suddently collapsed. The trainers said when they reached him, he was unconscious without a pulse. It is unknown what led to his sudden death.

Who wants to go and watch their favorite team play against a California team? After the controversy over two being shot at an Oakland-49ers game last year and Dodgers fans beating a Giants fan into a coma at a baseball game, California sporting events just seem so appealing. This time a Lakers fan pepper sprayed Jazz fans after Kobe and the boys lost.

Seattle is advancing to the Western Conference finals after Sounders put a late goal into the net, helping his team over Salt Lake 1-0.
